Captivated by the untouched beauty of Mafia Island, this hidden gem in the Indian Ocean, south of Zanzibar, four friends - Carmen, Genevieve, Jeff and Ujju - came together with a shared vision: to create a serene beach retreat that blends luxury with the island's natural beauty and authenticity.

In mid-2022, we discovered our perfect haven: just over one hectare of land with 120 meters of pristine beachfront, nestled near the charming village of Banja. The tranquil surroundings and untouched landscape immediately captured our hearts, inspiring the creation of Banja Amani Lodge (Amani = peace in Swahili).

Construction began in January 2024, when we partnered with a local constructor to lead the works and bring our dream to life.

With a focus on blending European touches of understated luxury with the natural elegance of noble materials, our first bungalow began to take shape, perfectly embodying the essence of island living.
